The Town of Oasis

Oasis is the best caravan and trading post in the Wastelands Territory. It provides shelter and sustenance for travelers crossing the ever-treacherous Wastelands. In Oasis, one can find some peace, security (all relative to one’s self, of course), and rest before heading out again into Nexus.

Oasis is situated within a broad valley surrounded mostly by mountains and a small sea. One must be aware, however, of the nature of the Wastelands Territory in which Oasis resides. The after effect of the Gate War has made the landscape unstable to some degree, with landmarks changing position or disappearing entirely. Random gates appear and disappear all through the Wastelands, and for some reason, a lesser degree around Oasis. Do not be alarmed if you find the landscape or even buildings have moved position during the night.

The town of Oasis is located in both a commercially and strategic position in this region of the Nexus. The various trade routes run through here from all the local city-states. There are also rumors of old tech caches and supply dumps of the Humans from the War days. Many have been found, fought over and even caused some Fey incursions to destroy such finds. The area holds many ancient Song Shrines, and places that the Fey regard as ‘holy’ places.

The residents include people from all the races, all living in relative peace with one another. Dwarves often trade here and mine in the surrounding hills. Tinker bands travel through very often, sometimes stopping for a while if the trading is good, or if they are looking for tech. Fey come through to trade or visit the local song shrines, or so they say.

There are a few Beastmen War Bands and few Felinae Tribes that are in the area. With the exception of the occasional raid, they are mostly peaceful, even trading with the locals on occasion.

A human sheriff named John Smith, and an elven Judge named Arial, preserve law and order in the area. They are hired by the Merchant’s Guild to keep the peace and patrol this area about once a month. Any serious complaints of theft, murder, or other minor grievances can be brought before them. The penalties depend on the crime (and mood) of the Judge. A deputy or two are sometimes appointed by the Sheriff and the Judge, with input by the locals, who will report to the Sheriff, and acts as the representative of the Merchant's Guild when no one else is around.

The Fey holdings of Aethnea have an outpost near Oasis. They claim Oasis as their own for trade tariffs and taxes. So, too, does the Human region of Terra Bella, with it's own nearby outpost. Like Aethnea, Terra Bella also claims Oasis for taxing purposes. Rumor has it, that the Cyborgs also have a nearby outpost for trade purposes. Luckily enough, the Cyborgs aren't demanding taxes. Aethnea and Terra Bella do that more than enough on their own.

There you have it, a brief look at Oasis and its inhabitants. It is not an easy life there, but if you’ve got the guts, the determination, a little luck, and the right friends, you might even make a name for yourself.
